  • World Build 2.0 launches to fund and reward mini-app developers in the World ecosystem.
  • The World app hits 10 million downloads with 300 mini apps backed by $12 million in funding.

The World app is taking another big step toward global innovation. As revealed, the World Foundation and Tools For Humanity have announced the second edition of their developer campaign, World Build 2.0. Following the first edition’s success earlier this year, the initiative encourages mini-app creation within the World ecosystem.

World Foundation Funding and Development Opportunities

Notably, the World Foundation is organizing World Build 2.0 in collaboration with Tools For Humanity, the team behind the World app’s development. This new phase is expected to mirror the earlier edition, which ran from February to May.

The previous edition included an online hackathon and a physical build sprint. It also had a demo day, during which developers showcased their ideas to venture capitalists and grant providers.

This year, the programme will again offer several funding opportunities. Tools For Humanity is running a Developer Rewards Pilot, with $300,000 set aside for rewards over three months. Developers whose mini apps perform well may receive up to $25,000 weekly.

There is also a $1 million retroactive WLD token reward for developers who launched mini apps before May 16 and reached over 10,000 verified human users—applications for this token distribution close on June 9.

In addition, World Foundation is supporting creators through its Mini Apps Grants Program and a set of retroactive rewards for projects already live on the platform.

To further the campaign, World Foundation and TFH have teamed up with FWB, a crypto events DAO, to host World Build 2.0 in July. The goal is to bring together developers and builders through virtual and in-person engagements.

As highlighted in our previous news brief, Worldcoin‘s native token WLD gained 36% on Thursday after World Foundation revealed a $135 million fundraising effort to expand its digital identity system.

Current outlook shows that Worldcoin (WLD) is up 7% in 24 hours to $1.13 as the community weighs in on the latest developer event.

World App Sees Rapid Growth as Developers Continue to Build

The World app has seen impressive growth this year, especially on Android. With more than 10 million downloads globally, it has emerged as a major player in blockchain-based digital identity.

According to AppFigures, over 5.9 million downloads were recorded on Android devices in 2025 alone. Countries like Indonesia, Colombia, Brazil, the Philippines, and Peru lead the way in download numbers.

Despite the global interest, uptake in the United States remains low. This may be linked to Worldcoin’s WLD token being unavailable to U.S. residents until a recent policy update on April 30. Meanwhile, CNF also reported that Wordcoin was officially launched in six U.S. cities, offering WLD tokens for iris scans through its Orb devices.

Currently, around 300 mini apps are available within the World app. These mini apps have collectively attracted roughly $12 million in venture capital funding, highlighting strong interest from investors and developers alike.

The World app runs on the World Network blockchain, which is based on Ethereum through the Optimism Superchain. While monetization is not the primary focus for now, the drive for developer support and user growth is clear.

Previously, we explored that the World’s biometric ID project is enhancing its World Chain system by introducing Circle’s USD Coin and the upgraded CCTP V2 protocol. These trends point to a very healthy ecosystem.
