President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Tuesday, bragging about a trade deal with Indonesia after he threatened them with a letter to increase taxes on goods coming from there.
One of the major items manufactured in Indonesia is Levi's jeans, though they're also produced in other countries.
"This morning I finalized an important Deal with the Republic of Indonesia after speaking with their Highly Respected President Prabowo Subianto," Trump wrote on his social media. "This landmark Deal opens up Indonesia’s ENTIRE MARKET to the United States for the first time in History. As part of the Agreement, Indonesia has committed to purchasing $15 Billion Dollars in U.S. Energy, $4.5 Billion Dollars in American Agricultural Products, and 50 Boeing Jets, many of them 777’s."
Trump sent the letter to the country on July 7. Two days later, they announced the oil and grain deal.
A Reuters report from April 15 said that Indonesia would propose energy imports as an effort to avoid tariffs. Three months later, it appears to have worked.
The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative detailed the 1996 bilateral Trade and Investment Framework Agreement with Indonesia that totaled an estimated $38.3 billion in 2024. In May 2025, soybeans ($109 million) and palm oil ($153 million) were the top exports from the U.S., said The Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC). Others from U.S. farmers include wheat, corn and peanuts.
However, Trump claimed it was the "first time ever our Ranchers, Farmers, and Fishermen will have Complete and Total Access to the Indonesian Market of over 280 million people."
Trump then gave props to New Jersey Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew for blocking windmills off the coast.
"Remember that your Republican Congressman, and my GREAT friend, Jeff Van Drew, is fighting hard, and WINNING, to keep your Beaches BEAUTIFUL, with NO WINDMILLS. In fact, we just beat one of the biggest Windmill projects anywhere in the World. It would have been a disaster, but they gave up because of the onslaught of “TRUMP”/Van Drew. Great job, Jeff!" Trump said.
New Jersey already has offshore wind farms, but funding was granted by President Joe Biden's administration to expand them. The Trump administration pulled the permit for the project in March, reported WHYY.
