Some conservatives took to social media to denounce the "MAGA accounts for kids" idea outlined in the draft House spending bill that would give $1,000 investment seed money to children.

Semafor reported that the original idea belonged to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who claimed MAGA savings accounts for "every child born in America" would "help them begin the journey of savings and benefit from the wonders of compound interest."

One user wrote on X, "As a conservative Christian from Texas, I think this is ridiculous. Stop handing out money. Get back to the basics of running our country. If you want kids to learn about finance, teach it in school," while another wrote, "Why does everything have to include a hand out to some, but not all? How about no handouts and instead we focus on no national debt and a balanced budget???"

A post from account @newboots1977, whose bio claimed he was "helping traditional values win the culture war," suggested, "How about you just end [Social Security]? Sunset the program over time, keep elderly on it, let people in the middle tax credit their way out and for the younger ones just never put them on it."

@akironsides wrote, "No! No! No! No! Are you sure it’s a Big Beautiful Bill?? Big, yes. But this sure is an ugly addition to it. So much waste and room for fraud and abuse in this idea."

And yet another wrote, "AOC economics."

Left-leaning posters were quick to equate the MAGA accounts to socialism, not conservatism.

One liberal user wrote, "MAGA said f--- a national debt, we like socialism now," while political agitator The Gas Stove with 13,000 followers wrote, "Free money?"

One user whose bio included support for "Kamala 2028" wrote, "What happened to all that socialism s--- they've been b----ing about for a hundred years?"
