Ofcom Appoints Online Regulation Fanatics to ‘Advisory Committee on Misinformation’

Last week Guido pointed out that internet regulator Ofcom had so far failed to create its promised “Advisory Committee on Disinformation and Misinformation” as required by the 2023 Online Safety Act. Six months after announcing the committee Ofcom has today finally put it together…

The panel, whose role is to “provide advice to Ofcom about specific areas of our work relevant to misinformation and disinformation” will meet on 16 May and is made up of five members on three-year terms:

• Jeffrey Howard: UCL political philosophy professor who said Boris was “morally blameworthy for inciting violence” against MPs because he used the words “surrender” and “betrayal” in political discourse.
