OBR: Labour U-Turns Damage UK’s Fiscal Position

The Office for Budget Responsibility’s latest Fiscal Risks and Sustainability report paints a grim picture of Britain’s financial future. It blames Starmer’s U‑turns on winter fuel and welfare for leaving the public finances in a “vulnerable position.” It states:

“But recent policy commitments create new pressures on the public finances, including the reinstatement of winter fuel payments for some pensioners, the reversal of welfare reforms, and the commitment to further increase defence spending to 3.5 per cent of GDP by 2035.”
