Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Pat McFadden was on the media round today, where he admitted there’s currently no clear plan to fund Labour’s new commitment to spend 5% of GDP on national security by 2035. Pressed on Good Morning Britain about how the government intends to pay for the increase, McFadden said:
“These spending reviews happen every two to three years… we just had one a couple of weeks ago… as we increase defence expenditure in future spending reviews, we’ll set out in those how that’s going to be funded.”
