IOTA Joins Government Strategies in Peru, Kenya, and the UK—Here’s Why
  • Governments in Africa, Europe, and Asia are embedding IOTA tech in customs, trade, and public services.
  • Peru, Kenya, and Japan apply IOTA in digital governance, export tracking, and industrial maintenance systems.

IOTA Foundation has also spread its global reach through several nations actively implementing its tech. It has gone from digitizing customs in Africa to food tracing on the continent in Europe and now forms part of various state-sponsored ventures.

Peru has officially confirmed its intention to adopt IOTA in the country’s digital policy, with a specific focus on smart cities and digital government services. The announcement came through an official government portal and reported on the plan for better governance through increased transparency and efficiency via this technology.

Kenya has already started implementing IOTA via the TradeNet System via the TWIN network. The integration forms part of a plan aimed at digitizing the customs processes of the country and export certifications. It aligns with wider trends in adopting advanced tools in Africa as traditional systems fall away in a bid to enhance dependability and minimize corrupt activities.

The United Kingdom also tested the actual application of IOTA in real life. One of the pilot projects, funded by the UK Cabinet Office, focuses on monitoring imports from the European Union of poultry. The other initiative applies IOTA as a tool for border security and supply chain monitoring for the food sector. These trials belong to the TWIN Foundation’s worldwide agenda.

Trade Modernization: Africa and Europe Take Practical Steps

Zambia asserted a larger positioning by hosting the launch of the TWIN Foundation in May 2025. The Foundation came about as a result of a collaboration between the IOTA Foundation and organizations such as the World Economic Forum and Tony Blair Institute and has the aim of making available decentralized infrastructure for data exchange in cross-border trade. Zambia will utilize this platform in promoting IOTA’s positioning under the African Continental Free Trade Area.

The Netherlands has also partnered with Kenya in RESULD, a project utilizing IOTA for monitoring shipments of fresh produce between the two countries. The effort aims at simplifying logistics and making agricultural exports from Africa more sustainable. The project has apparent advantages in the organization of cold chains and timely deliveries.

IOTA has also expanded its application in industrial maintenance. In Japan, the IOTA Foundation has partnered with NEDO in a bid to advance predictive systems used in the energy and petrochemical industries. The systems depend on distributed technology and artificial intelligence to reduce outages by making accurate predictions for maintenance requirements.

IOTA Gains Islamic Certification and EU, UAE Recognition

IOTA attained Shari’a compliance certification in 2024. This opens up its application in financial systems based on Islamic law so it can expand its reach in the Middle East and North Africa region. The certification validates the integration of blockchain systems compliant with both religious and regulatory financial requirements.

In the European region, the IOTA Foundation has engaged in communication with the regulating agencies in order to craft regulations surrounding blockchain applications that find a balance between consumer safety and innovation. The regulations will likely make the technology acceptable enough for institutional investors, especially in those industries needing regulatory clarity.

The United Arab Emirates launched IOTA worldwide at CEATEC 2023 in Japan. At the event, IOTA was advertised as a leader in technology employed for green digital services. The UAE’s interest indicates the manner in which nations embrace emerging digital tools for environmental and economic purposes.
