California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office condemned the “inhumane” raid and singled out US President Donald Trump’s top adviser Stephen Miller. “Instead of supporting the businesses and workers that drive our economy and way of life, Stephen Miller’s tactics evoke chaos, fear and terror within our communities at every turn,” the statement continued.

Trump has made a crackdown on illegal immigration one of his signature policies, accusing his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, and the Democrats of profiting from an influx of migrants across the border with Mexico.

Newsom and other top Democrats, in turn, have labeled Trump’s methods, including a promise to carry out the largest deportation in American history, dangerous and unlawful.
