A car-ramming and stabbing incident has taken place on the Jewish religious holiday Yom Kippur

A car and stabbing attack has left at least four people injured outside a synagogue in Crumpsall, Greater Manchester.

A member of the public called the police at 9.31am local time, saying he had witnessed a car being driven towards members of the public, and that one man had been stabbed, Greater Manchester Police said in a statement on Monday.

The police have declared a major incident, and deployed firearm officers, following reports that a security guard had been attacked with a knife. One man, believed to be the offender, has been shot.
